Schmitt stays tuned in to her game
Everyone says she has good tempo in golf, and it is from the piano, said Barb Schmitt, Christine’s mother. You can see when she is on, you can tell by her composure and tempo.
Most wouldn’t consider golf to be a musical game even though tempo and rhythm play an important role.
With a strong internal rhythm that often lent itself to uncanny calmness, Mercy’s Christine Schmitt rolled to her second consecutive Section V girls golf title and her first All-Greater Rochester player of the year honor this fall.

“She constantly hums to herself,” said Paul Sanders, director of instruction at Ravenwood Golf Club and Schmitt’s personal coach. “She is very musical. She would get a song going in her head and would play her best golf when she had a rhythm and a tempo. Her inner-metronome allows her to play within herself. She is very consistent and quiet.”
The 5-foot-6 sophomore is an accomplished pianist, taking part in both her school’s jazz band and orchestra.
